We have developed a novel, low-cost, zero-discharge process solution for the valorisation of lignocellulose-rich organic waste into valuable chemicals (simple sugars, furfural, ketones, aldehydes and fertilisers) using acidic mine tailing waste, which we call 'AgroTailings'.
In the agriculture and mining sectors, huge quantities of waste materials are produced. To combat this growing concern in the agricultural and mining industries, we developed the 'AgroTailings' processing technology.
This technology effectively marries two problems in the mining sector and the agricultural sector, as two negatively priced instreams are converted into three positively priced commodities. This reduces the waste burden to both the mining and agricultural sectors while synthesising valuable chemical products.
Some recent research work is presented here.
In April of 2016, BlueStem commenced research and development works and after a few years of development, we have confirmed that the AgroTailings project can effectively remediate organic waste and mine tailings, while generating significant net profits through the sale of furfural and other specialised organic chemicals.
What truly separates AgroTailings technique from other industrial competitors are the following features:
Universally applicable to a wide host of organic feedstocks and a wide host of highly acidic mineral and anthropogenic waste materials.
High furfural yields.
Zero waste discharge.
Conversion of organic waste.
Utilisation of acidic mine tailings.
Uses molecular modelling formulations and advance artificial intelligence techniques to maximise product yields.
The above superlative process outcomes have been achieved by BlueStem by utilising a specially developed proprietary mixture of catalysts, reagents and extraction techniques.
In essence, AgroTailings is the realisation that we may take two burdens from industry and cost-effectively create high-value specialty chemicals.
